It’s almost here! In less than a week, my husband and I will embark in our most daring journey yet: a two-month trip through South America.
Over half a year ago, we both decided to take a long break and dedicate ourselves to one of our passions: travelling. Back then, we just had this grand idea of taking some time off from work to wander off for an unclear amount of time and a yet to be decided destination.
During the long-winter Melbournian nights, we debated over two main destinations, namely South East Asia and South America; being the second one the winner by a narrow margin. The reason: it’s further away from Australia and we weren’t unsure whether we would get another chance to do it again.
While we waited for our respective workplaces’ approval for the long-break, we designed a first, a second and a third draft of our intended route through the South-American continent until we outlined an itinerary, we both liked and agreed on.
Now, after so many hours planning and organizing things, our long-awaited journey it’s just a few days away.
The adventure will start on November the 26th, when we fly from Melbourne to Lima, Peru’s capital city. And it will end a bit over two months later on January 30th when will land back in Melbourne from Ushuaia, the southernmost city of the world, located in Argentina.
During this two-month period our plan is to travel through Peru to reach Bolivia (should the political situation in the country improve by then), then continue from Bolivia to Chile and Argentina. Among the places we want to visit:
- Lima (Peru)
- Nazca Lines (Nazca, Peru)
- Cusco & the Inca Trail (Cusco, Peru)
- Lake Titicaca (Peru & Bolivia)
- La Paz (Bolivia, only if possible)
- Salt Flats of Uyuni (Bolivia, only if possible)
- Buenos Aires (Argentina)
- Iguazu Falls (Argentina & Brazil)
- Patagonia (Argentina & Chile)
For the duration of the trip, it’s my intention to update this travel blog at least once a week with posts on our journey, practical information about the places we are visiting and/or the local gastronomy of the areas where we will be staying.
